Federal Judge Decides Amounts Owed In Cayuga Nation RICO Case Against Smoke Shop

The battle continues in New York

Afederal judge has decided upon attorney fees and damages in the Cayuga Nation’s $15 million racketeering lawsuit against a Montezuma smoke shop.

The nation was awarded $261,495.06 in attorney fees and associated costs by Judge Brenda K. Sannes of U.S. District Court, Northern District of New York, in a 48-page Wednesday decision.

However, Sannes said that all damages owed to the nation will be offset by a counterclaim amount in favor of the shop’s operators, Dustin Parker and Nora Weber.

In a news release Thursday, the nation’s federally recognized representative, Clint Halftown, said the decision “affirms that the Cayuga Nation’s rights will be protected and that those who violate them will be held accountable.”
