Kratom Is Now Legal In Rhode Island
It’s limited to people over 21 years of age
Kratom is legal in Rhode Island as of starting April 1, and one local lawmaker wants it to be locked up.
“Kratom is an addictive psychoactive substance,” Rep. Michelle McGaw, who voted against legalizing kratom, said in a statement. “Particularly given how little study there has been on its effects on the body, it warrants extra security to prevent it from falling into the hands of kids.”
The Rhode Island Kratom Act, which passed in 2025, states that kratom can only be sold to people over 21. Additionally, all kratom products “shall be kept behind the sales counter only accessible to store employees.”
