Washington Moves To Up Smoking Age To 21

Tribal smoke shops wouldn’t be affected by the new law however

With a stroke of Governor Inslee’s pen, the state of Washington could soon make it illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to buy tobacco products, like cigarettes and vapes; but there’s a catch.

Eighteen to 20-year-old’s would still be able to get their fix at tribal smoke shops, by taking a short drive to shops like Lil Brown Smoke Shack, just outside Union Gap.

“The tribal shops are gonna pick up more sales because if they’re not gonna follow the same regulation, it’s almost pointless for our governor to sign that, because all he’s doing is basically forcing these younger kids to go to the tribal reservations to get their product,” said Smoke It’s Smoke Shop owner Brandon Matthews.

Washington State Senator Doug Ericksen says a law that places restrictions strictly on the sales of tobacco products, and not possession or use doesn’t make any sense.
