Virginia Bill Looks To Regulate Hemp Products
The legislation establishes clear caps for both CBD and THC
9th District Republican Congressman Morgan Griffith has introduced the HEMP Act, which aims to regulate the sale of hemp-based products by setting clear limits on CBD and THC content in over-the-counter items.
The bipartisan bill, cosponsored by Texas Democrat Marc Veasey, would establish FDA regulations for hemp-based products, create manufacturing specifications, enable the FDA to recall products, and require third-party testing of products.
Griffith said the legislation is an attempt to put guardrails on products that have often gone unchecked.
“Too often they’re not regulated at all. And we’ve been seeing situations where children get hold of gummies that their parents have bought, and they think they’re candy, and they eat a whole bag of them. And so we started with that,” Griffith said.
