TSA Updates Medical Cannabis Rules To Allow Hemp Derived CBD On Flights

The policy was updated at some point over the holiday weekend

A new section was added to the TSA website at some point over the weekend that now says “Products/medications that contain hemp-derived CBD or are approved by the FDA are legal as long as it is produced within the regulations defined by the law under the Agriculture Improvement Act 2018.”

This change marks the first time the TSA has made a distinction between hemp-derived CBD products and any other form of cannabis. While the agency hasn’t stated exactly how they plan to enforce the new policy, they have stated in the past they do not specifically look for cannabis in the first place and if found they would defer to state law enforcement as maintaining plane safety is the main task of the TSA, not playing DEA.
