South Carolina State Lawmakers Advance Bill To Tighten Rules On Hemp-Derived THC Products
Hemp retailers are urging lawmakers to regulate the industry without shutting it down
South Carolina lawmakers are moving a bill to the Senate floor that would tighten restrictions on hemp-derived THC products, including drinks currently sold legally in liquor stores, gas stations and shops across the state.
Hemp retailers are urging lawmakers to regulate the industry without shutting it down. “When a high schooler gets caught with beer, no one tries to kill the liquor industry,” said Bruce Lyons, owner of Your CBD Store. “Let’s do a comprehensive reform of the business, but don’t kill our business.”
The bill would prohibit certain synthetic THC compounds, including delta 8 and delta 10, while allowing non-THC CBD products to remain legal. The bill would make it illegal for anyone under 21 to buy or possess hemp-derived THC products and would require retailers to verify a customer’s age.
