Sacramento City Council Bans Flavored Tobacco Products

The ban goes into effect January of 2020

The Sacramento City Council is taking a stand against flavored tobacco products. The council voted 7 to 1 to ban the sale of the items, which have become popular for those who vape or use e-cigarettes.

Supporters of the ban are concerned flavored tobacco targets children; opponents said the ban could shut down their businesses. “I’m scared,” said Noorddin Kachhi, the owner of Cloud 9 Discount Smoke Shop and Vapes. “I’m nervous. I’m having sleepless nights. I’m afraid I’ll lose my business.”

Smoke shop and convenience store owners, like Kachhi, pleaded with city council members to reconsider banning the sale of flavored tobacco products. “I stand in front of you, begging for mercy,” Kachhi said. “We will lose everything we worked so far for. We will not survive the flavor ban.”
