Ohio To Permanently Ban Synthetic Kratom
The ban begins on May 14th
Ohio will permanently ban synthetic kratom, starting as soon as May 14, while natural forms remain legal for now.
On April 13, a panel of state lawmakers approved a new rule to ban synthetic forms of kratom, an herbal extract from a Southeast Asian tree. That rule will replace a similar, temporary ban on synthetic kratom, which has been in effect since December.
Kratom is sold as an energy booster, mood lifter, pain reliever and remedy for the withdrawal symptoms of quitting opioids, according to the Mayo Clinic. Kratom’s supporters say the supplement has important health benefits.
Kratom is sold in smoke and vape shops, gas stations and other specialty shops.
