New Tennessee Hemp Law Takes Effect As Industry Group Launches To Help Businesses Adjust
Businesses must now comply with new requirements
Tennessee’s new hemp regulations officially take effect Wednesday, bringing significant changes for businesses that sell hemp-derived cannabinoid products across the state.
Under the new law, oversight of hemp-derived cannabinoid products moves from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture to the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC). Businesses must now comply with new licensing requirements, product regulations and restrictions, including limits on the sale of THCA products.
THCA is a cannabinoid found in raw cannabis plants that can convert into intoxicating THC when heated.
Supporters of the law say the changes close a loophole that allowed intoxicating hemp products similar to marijuana to be sold in Tennessee, while also improving product safety, reducing youth access and making enforcement more consistent.
