CHAMPS Glass Games

A Preview Of The Glass Games At CHAMPS Orlando

Florida Wildlife is the theme for the Orlando Glass Games this year

The Glass Games take place over the course of a year at all six CHAMPS Trade Shows. At the Las Vegas Summer and Winter Shows, and in Atlantic City, a multitude of elite artists square off in live glassblowing competitions.  However, at the three other CHAMPS Trade Shows—upcoming in Orlando, Denver and Chicago—the Glass Games function much like an art show/exhibition.

The next Glass Games event is scheduled for September 21-23 in Orlando and all artists are invited to submit an application to compete. Victoria Shaw, the assistant director of the games, explains: “We select sixteen artists from these signups. Artists who are selected receive a 4-foot artist table in exchange for a minimum $400 wholesale-value, competition piece that they showcase on the convention floor.”

Matty White, the director of the Glass Games, has designated “Florida Wildlife” as the theme to inspire the chosen sixteen. The competition requirements open the door for outstanding artistry and workmanship. Because the live, on-site competitions are under time constraints, artists must limit their creative vision somewhat. But with ample time to allow the imagination to run wild prior to the event, the Orlando Glass promise an awesome display of talent that will, no doubt, enthrall attendees.

The artists’ creations will be on display throughout the Orlando Show at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center during the trade show. All pieces will be available for purchase in a silent auction. The proceeds from sales will be donated to the Florida Wildlife Federation (fwfonline.org).

Artists are encouraged to submit their applications to compete.
