Proposed Legislation Would Phase Out Nicotine, Tobacco Sales In Massachusetts
Three lawmakers said they would file the bill in the 2025 – 2026 session
Three Massachusetts lawmakers on Monday announced plans to file a bill to phase out the sale of all nicotine and tobacco products.
State Senator Jason Lewis and State Representatives Tommy Vitolo and Kate Lipper-Garabedian said they would file the bill in the 2025-26 legislative session. In a statement, they cited the health concerns and related economic impact of the products.
“The staggering economic cost of smoking in the U.S. is an estimated $300 billion annually through a combination of healthcare costs and loss of productivity, straining the healthcare system and the economy as a whole,” the lawmakers wrote in their statement.
