Pilot Program In Kentucky To Reimburse Medicare Patients For Hemp-Derived Products

It comes at a critical time

A new pilot program to reimburse qualifying Medicare patients in Kentucky for hemp-derived products starts this month.

It comes at a critical time, as the industry faces a looming federal deadline that could ban most products currently on the shelves.

At Cornbread Hemp in Louisville, employees are busy behind the scenes at their facility along Schuff Avenue, carefully measuring, making and packaging a range of products derived from hemp.

Company co-founder Jim Higdon says they have become a national leader in this space.

“We’re the largest USDA-certified organic producer of full-spectrum CBD products,” Higdon said.

Now, it may be easier for people to access those products.

In December, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to loosen restrictions on marijuana and, at the same time, develop research to improve access to hemp-derived products.
